Did you know that approximately 70% of supermarket foods contain genetically modified ingredients, whose safety is unknown? Have you been wondering what those bright red lawn signs, "TIME OUT! No GMOs" are all about? Genetic engineering and corporate control of our food supply affect anyone who eats... we're willing to bet that includes you!
Starting July 1 there's a new Vermont newsletter aimed at raising awareness of genetic engineering of our food: The Time Out Times. In it you'll find: information on genetically modified foods; news from the Vermont legislature; national and international news briefs; details on what's happening with local activist groups; and listings of resources and connections such as books, films, and websites - as well as occasional bits of humor, poetry and opinions from Vermonters and others. Submissions and contributions welcome! Tune in to all the interesting and exciting stuff that's going on in Vermont - independent film showings, rallies, fairs, discussion groups, lobbying, public forums and debates, networking, and education - all coordinated by small citizen groups and individuals interested in reclaiming control of our food.
This bimonthly publication is from GE Free Vermont, a statewide citizen group who is concerned about the rapid spread of genetically engineered crops in the United States, and who want a "time out" or moratorium on the growing of these crops until independent, objective studies have proven them safe for people and the environment.
The Time Out Times is available for 50 ¢ from GE Free Vermont and at other locations around the state. To obtain a copy, or if you have suggestions for distribution points, contact: GE Free Vermont via Upper Valley Food Co-op at 802-295-5804 and ask to speak to Kye; or email uvfcgm@aol.com.
