No GMO's in VERMONT
Genetically Engineering GMO's

April 2005 Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

I try to follow developments that touch on the environment, and your newspaper is one source that is much appreciated.  I have been surprised recently, though, to find relatively little coverage on the subject of Genetically Modified Organisms or GMOs.

An IMPORTANT piece of legislation has been approved by the full Vermont Senate and is now in House where passage is expected soon.  The legislation would limit the legal liability that Vermont farmers would face if they planted genetically modified seeds.

Indications of public interest abound: there were MORE supporters of the bill in the Senate then there were Senators present; Monsanto has been lobbying aggressively at the Capitol; and the Governor IS expected to sign this bi-partisan legislation.  Yet I see a dearth of news coverage, letters to the editor, or editorial content available to better inform your readers.

With luck, we'll all soon be able to learn more about this critical issue.

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME & ADDRESS
